Why:
Join AIGA Nebraska, the professional association for design, for the
opening of a unique exhibition of contemporary concert posters. A mere glance
through the Jackson Artworks’ gallery and your head will spin at bold
uses of color, form, typography, and line. It is this new generation of poster
art–passionate, daring and inspiring that Graphic Noise celebrates.
Today’s poster artists combine the expressive freedom first realized
during the poster revolution of the 1960’s with the do-it-yourself approach
of the punk scene, creating an unprecedented surge of innovative poster production.
Gigposters.com—a Web community for poster artists boasts over 3,500 designers
and 40,000 examples of their work. The array of techniques and styles represented
in this show is vast. Posters exhibited include everything from rough hand-drawn
graphics, screen prints, letterpress productions, to posters so finely rendered
they appear to be film stills. Featuring leaders in the field Jesse LeDoux,
Jeff Kleinsmith, Tara McPherson, Modern Dog, and many others—this exhibit
captures the bold imagination and passion for music that defines the new generation
of poster artists. The bands and musicians depicted run the gamut from indie
upstarts like The Decemberists, Bright Eyes, and Iron & Wine to veterans
such as Elvis Costello, Radiohead, Wide Spread Panic and many, many more.
Following it’s successful run and unprecedented attendance at MODA,
MCAD, and Drexel University, Graphic Noise will make a loud stop in Omaha appealing
to anyone who enjoys art and music. Graphic Noise: Art at 1,000 dBs, opens
at Jackson Artworks Gallery June 16th featuring local musical artists, Simon
Joyner, Ted Stevens and Jake Bellows, plus a section featuring your favorite
local band poster artists.
