Me, Myself & Design returned to stoke the flames of your interest in design!
MMD09, Chapter 2 is officially closed!
AIGA Nebraska invited area designers to come to Metropolitan Community College's South Omaha campus on Saturday, August 29 for a day-long mini-conference devoted to stoking your inner fires for design and design education. We gathered a diverse group of designers from Nebraska and beyond to talk about their work, their practices in design and how they keep their own creative drive burning bright.
Workshops, talks, lunch and other design surprises were part of this red hot event!
Event registration cost $24 for AIGA members & $44 for non-members.
Me, Myself & Design 2009, Chapter 2 was comprised of four primary parts:
1. Morning workshop sessions (9 am - Noon)
2. Lunch shared by the session leaders and participants (Noon - 1:30 pm)
3. Afternoon workshop sessions (1:30 - 4:30 pm)
4. A closing presentation by Andrea Marks, our event keynote speaker
Peter Morris from Local Hero Design / Pocket Wookie was kind enough to post these photos from the event.

A Listing of Our Event Sessions (For Future Reference):
We offered each of the following sessions at this event:

Andrea Marks, author of Writing for Visual Thinkers: A Guide for Artists and Designers and associate professor and coordinator of the graphic design program at Oregon State University, hosted two workshop sessions devoted to the translation of visual ideas into verbal expression. Participants will work directly with Andrea as they learn how great writing and great design go hand-in-hand.

We brought together a group of designers to lead these two workshops about the creative work they do in addition to their regular jobs. Designing gig posters, antique printing techniques, screenprinting, making custom toys, t-shirts, and design event planning are just a few of the topics these sessions covered.
Led by:
Peter Morris from Local Hero Design / Pocket Wookie
Eric Nyffeler from Nebraska Book Company / Doe-Eyed Design
Bennett Holzworth from Nebraska Book Company / Be A Design Group / Type B Press
Michael Nielsen from Archrival / workshop

Led by:
Steve Gordon from RDQULUS Creative
Bob Hankin from Bellevue University / Anxious Frank Design
Dave Nelson from Secret Penguin
Ryan Holt from Nelnet

Justin Kemerling, of Swanson-Russell (his day job) and The Match Factory (his “whenever else” job), addressed ways of using your design prowess on projects that deliver more than just financial gain. Justin led discussion and activities focused on designing for social, political and personal goals beyond depositing another check in your bank account.
